Your instructor

Meet Shanaz — your local female driving instructor

I qualified as a DVSA-approved driving instructor (ADI) before going independent and launching Shaz's School of Motoring in 2018.

I provide one-to-one manual driving lessons, tailored to each individual learner. I adapt my teaching to how you learn, working at a pace that suits you — there's no fixed script or one-size-fits-all approach.

I have a particular focus on helping nervous learners become confident drivers, providing the patience, support and encouragement needed to build confidence both on the road and on test day.

I genuinely could not have asked for a better instructor than Shaz. I came to her quite late with a test already booked after a previous experience had knocked my confidence. From my very first assessment, she listened to my situation, was completely honest about where I was at and believed in me from the beginning. She made time for me, prioritised getting me test-ready and never just told me what I wanted to hear. If something needed fixing, she told me, we worked on it, and she made sure I was genuinely prepared.

After only FIVE lessons with Shaz and just two months of driving altogether, I passed FIRST TIME with only TWO minors! I had a strict examiner and what felt like every difficult thing possible on my route: country roads, awkward roundabouts, difficult junctions and right turns. But I felt prepared because I had already tackled these things with Shaz. She doesn't just prepare you for an easy test route, she prepares you to actually drive and deal with whatever comes your way.

I've had experience with a few instructors, and genuinely, there is nobody like her. She completely transformed my confidence and believed in my driving even when I didn't fully believe in myself. Honestly, she was basically my mama instructor 😂💖 Her Audi A3 is also an absolute dream to learn in! I'm sad we only had five lessons together, but so grateful I found her when I did. I'll be coming back for a motorway lesson. If you're considering learning with Shaz, just book her. She is genuinely one in a million and I cannot recommend her enough. 💖

Thank you so much for all your help, patience and encouragement throughout my driving lessons! I really appreciate everything you've taught me and how much confidence you've given me behind the wheel. I couldn't have done it without your support. I'm genuinely grateful for all your time and effort — thank you for being such a great instructor! 🚗😊

Hadn't driven in about fifteen years after moving to the city and back. The refresher lessons got me comfortable on the highway again within three sessions.

Questions

Before you book

What age can I start driving lessons?

You can start lessons from 17 with a provisional licence. But it's never too late to learn — I also welcome adult learners, nervous drivers and those returning to driving after years away.

Whether you're starting from scratch or getting back behind the wheel, lessons are tailored to you and your individual needs.

Do you teach automatic cars?

No — I teach manual transmission only. If you're looking for automatic lessons, just ask before booking and I'll be happy to point you in the right direction.

Why is there no one-hour lesson option?

Lessons are booked as 1.5 or 2 hours because an hour often isn't enough time to make meaningful progress. By the time you've settled in and warmed up, the lesson can feel like it's over.

Longer lessons give you time to practise, build on what you've covered and make real progress — rather than just warming up and stopping.

Do you provide the car for the driving test?

Yes. Your lessons are in my dual-control manual car, and this is the same car you'll use for your driving test. I'll make sure you're fully prepared and talk you through everything you need to know as your test date gets closer.

How do I book a lesson?

Simply message me on WhatsApp with your full name, address and postcode so I can check I cover your area, along with the days you're available.

I'll check my diary and, if I have availability, arrange your lessons and send you a reminder text before each lesson.

Do lessons run in winter weather?

Yes, and they're often the most useful ones. I'll get in touch if road conditions on a given day are unsafe and reschedule with you.

How many lessons will I need?

There's no set number of lessons — every learner is different. A typical beginner with no access to private practice may need around 40–50 hours of professional lessons, but this can vary depending on the individual.

Some learners build confidence quickly, while nervous or anxious learners may need a little more time. That's completely normal.

You book lesson by lesson, with no fixed package. As we progress, I'll give you honest feedback on how you're doing, what you need to work on and when I feel you're ready for your test.

Currently booking from next week onwards.

WhatsApp your details and I'll fit you in as soon as I have space.
